Our OrganisationThe Speakeasy has been tackling poverty in Cardiff for almost 25 years. We offer a range of advice and support services to anyone living or working in Cardiff who is struggling with debt, benefits, housing and employment law or discrimination.Last year we helped 475 people with benefit issues, including 166 people who we helped to challenge unfair and incorrect benefit decisions made by the DWP and local authority. 84% of these appeals were successful, resulting in one-off payments of £86,000 and ongoing awards of £516,700 – more than £5,500 per person per year. Without our intervention, these people would have been denied their legal right to financial support. This would have left them without the means to live full and independent lives where they are able to take an active role in their communities. The Speakeasy is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to equal treatment of all employees without regard to race, national origin, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, physical or mental disability or other basis protected by law
